The Crowning of the Queen
Gillian Paterson was crowned Festival Queen and Kenneth Brown was installed as Melrosian in Melrose Parish Church where a large crowd to watch the proceedings. Michael Moore delivered this years oration whilst Alison Hughes (Mr Moores fiance) crowned The Festival Queen. Festival Chairman John Henderson installed Melrosian Kenneth Brown with his sash of office.
Greg Anderson received his rosette in recognition of his four years of official service and Jim Lyall received his Jubilee presentation as Melrosian in 1954. Former Festival Queens Shona Hume (1979) and Margaret Gowans (1954) received gifts in recognition of their jubilee milestones.
