The George and Abbotsford Hotel, an 18th century coaching inn, overlooks the High Street which was originally the Abbey Wall. It has been famed for its hospitality since the time of Sir Walter Scott when he entertained his good friend William Wordsworth as his house, at nearby Abbotsford, was being completed. The Hotel is a listed Building showing many of the architectural features of the Georgian period.

Our spacious, airy Waverley Restaurant offers a daily change of Table d'Hote Menu offering the finest of local ingredients, cooked with care and imagination. Served in a relaxed yet traditional setting with its huge open fireplace and panelled walls. For a less informal setting, then Ivanhoe's is the place to be. Serving both lunch and suppers seven days a week, featuring local specialities as well as traditional fayre. Its bar features a range of cask ales and over 30 malt whiskies to enjoy by the open fires in the winter.

The G&A is also a popular venue for conferences and functions. Our flexible function facilities are able to accommodate small family parties of 10-15 to weddings of 100.

At the G&A, as busy people call us, all our bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, satellite television, direct dial telephones, tea and coffee making facilities and radio alarm clocks. All 30 rooms are individually decorated, some overlook the historic abbey while a few have views of the majestic Eildon Hills. While we have no ground floor bedrooms, most of our bedrooms are on the first floor. All rooms are individually temperature controlled and enjoy lashings of hot water.
