Watsonians 34, Stirling County 5

The Millennium Melrose Sevens began with Watsonians defeating Stirling County in a low-key opening tie, in which Watsonians touched down six times.

Watsonians led 12-5 at the interval, with tries from John Kerr and Graham Inglis, and conversion from Marcus Di Rollo putting the capital side ahead. A try from Bob Wyllie kept County in touch as the break.

Two tries from Di Rollo early in the second half, put his side in a comfortable position, and the Watsonians play-maker converted one. Further tries from Andrew Wilson and Phil Smith set up an all-Edinburgh second round tie with Heriots.
