Melrose normally has a population of 2,200. On May 1 it was between 10,000 and 15,000 as people flocked to watch overseas sides including Villager RFC and Stellenbosch University RFC, as well as top Scottish Borders sides including last years winner, Melrose.

Glen Ord sponsored the Sevens which are the biggest crown puller in Scottish rugby outwith Murrayfield Internationals.

Read reports of all 19 ties, along with photographs. Melrose made it to the quarter finals before being beaten by Stellenbosch University RFC. Gala RFC made it through to the final and beat South African side Villager RFC 28-5.
