About the walk
This route visits the Rhymer’s Stone where legend has it that Thomas Learmonth met the Faerie Queen (see note on Walk 2 ). From the track to Newstead village the Roman Trimontium site can be seen. The village contains medieval houses and a very old Masonic Lodge site. We return to Melrose by the Middle Walk, the path used by the masons building Melrose Abbey as their home to work route. From the path through Priorwood Park there are good views of the Abbey.
